KOSSUTH TOWNSHIP — One person was killed and two more left seriously injured following a  two-vehicle collision on Route 6 between Topsfield and Springfield Monday morning.     A Maine Department of Transportation dump truck collided with a fully loaded logging truck after its driver lost control and crossed the westbound lane. The dump truck driver, 35-year-old Jarrod Damon of Grand Lake Stream was pronounced dead at the scene. Another DOT passenger, 43-year-old Greg Scott of Danforth was treated for injuries.
The log truck driver, 56-year-old Kenneth Slauenwhite of Island Falls told Maine State Police that he lost control of the truck after failing to negotiate a sharp curve. He said the trailer tipped over and hit the DOT truck head-on.
Slauenwhite escaped with minor injuries and was treated at the Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln and released.
Route 6 remained shut down for several hours while crews worked to remove tree-sized logs from the road.
State Police Lt. Christopher Coleman of Troop J is leading the investigation and said an accident reconstructionist was on site for several hours.
