UNVEILED IN TIME for Veteran’s Day, this Heroes Wall honors area veterans for service to their country. The wall contains etchings of over 40 local military personnel.

From the mall manager’s perspective, the event was a heartfelt opportunity to show support for those who’ve served and protected the United States for decades.
“To be part of this wonderful tribute and acknowledgement of our Aroostook County heroes is truly a dream come true for me, both personally and professionally,” said Patti Crooks, mall manager.
Crooks said to be able to honor veterans of today and yesterday, collectively, is “the ultimate privilege.”
“I know many of those youthful faces. I just can’t thank them enough for their service, courage and, for some, the ultimate sacrifice. That’s what our freedom and being an American is all about,” said Crooks.
Crooks added she deeply believes in those values from her own personal experience with family members serving in the military.
“My son is currently deployed. His tile is up on that wall. It’s with a sense of pride that I did it. It’s such a small gesture of love and respect for them (the veterans depicted on the wall). That’s what this is all about,” said Crooks. “To study and reflect on those who serve and have served is an honor in itself, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
The wall – sponsored by WAGM-TV – will be on display at the mall indefinitely, while a permanent home is sought for the commemorative piece featuring granite etchings of local veterans.
