Spud race rescheduled for Sunday

The Northern Maine Street Stock 100, which was postponed July 26 due to rain, will be made up this Sunday, Aug. 2 as part of a full Spud Speedway race card beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Track manager John Albert said the payouts for the race, which will feature a purse of over $5,000, will start at $1,500 for first place, with the top 10 earning cash prizes. He said it is an Ikey Dorr qualifier, meaning the winner pre-qualifies for the feature event at Speedway 95 in Hermon — the Ikey Dorr Memorial Race set for Oct. 4.

In addition to the feature race, pro stocks, Northern Lights, Enduro and go-karts will also compete during the afternoon.

The pits open at 9 a.m. and the grandstand at noon. Ticket prices are $10.

Caribou will meet Presque Isle in the championship game of the 10-12 year-old Northern Maine Community Recreation Association baseball tournament, set for this morning at 10 a.m. at the Robert P. White Little League Field in Caribou.

Spencer Soucy of Caribou and Chance Bragan of Presque Isle had three-run homers in their team’s semifinal contests. Also in the Presque Isle-Mars Hill game, PI’s Breygan Mahan made a huge diving catch and ripped an RBI double to send it into extra innings. Riley Roderick also homered for PI.

On Thursday, the NMCRA junior girls softball tournament will take place at Presque Isle.
