Owl women gain Great South Athletic Conference honors

    ATLANTA — The Great South Athletic Conference announced the 2014-15 women’s basketball all-conference award winners at a banquet held for the coaches and players recently.
The University of Maine at Presque Isle had two players named all-conference. Senior Rebecca Campbell and junior Darby Toth represented the Owls on the 10-member squad.
Campbell, a co-captain from Washburn, led the conference in total rebounds (12.7 per game) and games played. Campbell ranked second in minutes played, field goals and blocked shots. In addition, she was was fourth in field goal percentage (48.1), fifth in points (13.7 ppg) and 10th in assists.
Toth led the GSAC in assists (6.5 per game), assist to turnover ratio (2.9), steals (3.9 per game), 3-point shooting percentage (44.1) and minutes played and ranked third in scoring with 16.7 ppg. The point guard from North Port, Fla. controlled an Owls’ offensive attack that was second in the NCAA in fewest turnovers per game (11).
Also earning accolades from the Owls were Brianna Losee and Amanda Allen. Losee was named to the all-freshman team and Allen was named to the all-sportsmanship team.
Campbell and Toth were also lauded for their work in the classroom, as both earned spots on the all-academic team. Joining the duo with academic all-conference honors were sophomore Sydney Churchill and junior Katie Patenaude.
