Flag football begins

The Aroostook Huskies Football Club is proud to announce the formation of a flag football program for kids in grades 1-6.    The new league, part of USA Football’s flag program, representing the fastest-growing sport in America, will kick off with an informational/organizational meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, in the Edmunds Conference Center on the NMCC campus in Presque Isle.
Taylor DeFelice, the commissioner of this exciting venture, said that flag football was the obvious direction to go in bringing the game of football to this age group.
“All the research and data strongly supports the conclusion that tackle football is an unsafe game for kids under the age of 13,” DeFelice said. “Flag football provides all the education, action and fun without the risks of excessive contact.”
This initial meeting is intended to serve several purposes: provide information, get some sense of the level of interest in the sport, identify parent leaders and plan instructional clinics.
