Remembering the James School

To the editor:
I noticed a wonderful picture of the James Schoolhouse on the Niles Road in Presque Isle in a recent issue of County Crossroads magazine. Niles Road was called Spragueville Road when I started school there and for many years.

I started school there when I was 5 years old in 1932. I continued there until finishing grade 6, when the seventh and eighth grades were sent to junior high, a new addition to Presque Isle High, on Third Street.
The years at the James School were fun years. My mother went there and some of my father’s younger brothers and sisters, and also mom’s.
I’m now 87 years old. Loved the picture of the schoolhouse.
