EAGLE LAKE, Maine – In celebration of the start of National Health Center Week, Fish River Rural Health held its Annual Family Health Fair on Aug. 2 at Eagle Lake Health Center and attracted a record number of participants. FRRH reports that over 224 people visited this year’s health fair, exceeding attendance at last year’s event.
The event included FRRH honoring Dr. Paul Pelletier for his 35-years of medical service for our St. John Valley communities!
The free, fun-filled, informative event attracted all ages – children to seniors. Children’ s laughter could be heard as the youngsters jumped around in the bouncy house and took on the challenge of a child friendly obstacle course. Free shiny new bicycle helmets were given to children 12 and younger! Children had a chance to win a new bike, which was donated by a local sponsor. Other fair attractions included fire truck experience, ranger truck tour, as well as a chance to hang out with Smokey the Bear and even Dunk-a-Doc! There were three brave souls that took to the tank for a fun activity for all ages.

Adults received cholesterol, blood pressure and oxygen saturation screening at no cost. Fairgoers were able to explore wellness booths, such as nutrition, stress management, fitness/exercise management and heart health.
Healthy snacks were offered to all those who attended FRRH’s nutritionist booth. At this booth, participants were given ideas/recipes on healthy options for snacks that their entire family could enjoy.
The favorite hot spot was back … FRRH’s Teddy Bear Clinic! The clinic featured FRRH’s integrated health services: medical, optometry, dental, chiropractic and behavioral health. Young fairgoers’ cuddly stuffed animals received a free checkup on their heart, eyes, teeth, back and mind! Nearly 50 stuffed critters visited the Teddy Bear Clinic!
FRRH’s special feature this year was a tour of the Agency’s Eagle Lake Health Center new state-of-the-art pharmacy, which will open in September. September marks the opening of three FRRH clinic-based pharmacies in Eagle Lake, Fort Kent and Madawaska.
