PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Aroostook Agency on Aging is launching a new series of free community yoga classes, led by a longtime wellness professional and certified yoga instructor Cara Miller of Washburn.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 25 the first six-week session will kick off at several Agency Access Points, with Miller broadcasting from the Washburn Town Office Civic Room to Access Point locations in Danforth, Houlton, Island Falls and Portage Lake. These beginner-level classes are open to older adults, adults with disabilities and care partners of all ages and abilities.
Miller brings over 20 years of experience in health and wellness, including certifications in yoga instruction, sports injury, nutrition and gerontology. She holds a bachelor of science in community health education and a master’s in health science. She is a Certified Yoga Instructor and Sports Injury Specialist, Certified Nutritionist, Holistic Health Coach and holds additional certifications in gerontology and as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES/NCHEC).
“I’ve had the joy of serving Aroostook County for over two decades,” says Miller. “These community yoga classes offer a chance to build health and connection through movement that anyone can do.”
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and footwear, bring a yoga mat and water and grab a nearby chair if they require greater stability. Miller said the gentle movements are designed to support strength, flexibility, balance and overall well-being in a welcoming, inclusive space.
Session one on Mondays (except holidays) from 10–11 a.m. runs from Aug. 25 through Oct. 6.
Another session, held Thursdays (except holidays) from 1-2 p.m., starts Nov. 6 and runs through Dec. 18. In addition to the host site in Washburn, Access Points in Ashland, Caribou, Fort Kent and Monticello will participate in session two.
More sessions are planned for spring 2026, with new rotating Access Point locations to be announced. Full schedules, registration information and updates will be posted on the Aroostook Agency on Aging’s website and social media in the coming weeks.
