The County Community Players are rehearsing to present their summer musical performance.
“Back Stage Pass: A Musical Journey” is not a traditional show. This season the players have compiled a list of selections from 19 prominent Broadway musicals, including “Rent,” “Hamilton,” “Wicked,” “Les Miserables” and more, that they will perform in more than 20 solo and group performances.
A sneak peek will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, in conjunction with UMPI’s Community Day.
Performances are planned at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 11, along with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the Gauvin Family Center for Cultural Arts at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
This season, veteran members of the theater group are welcoming five brand-new performers to the stage, including a 10-year-old from New Hampshire who summers at Long Lake in Sinclair, to lead the audience on, as the title suggests, a spectacular musical journey through these iconic show hits.
In addition to the musical acts, raffle tickets will be available to purchase in the lobby for the chance to win a variety of theater-related items, and the group will award their annual scholarships at Friday night’s performance.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children, and are available online at thecountyplayers.org or at the door.
The Players will follow up this variety show with a fall performance of the musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” scheduled for Sept. 27 and 28 and Oct. 3 and 4 at the Gauvin Center.
Auditions will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, in the Multi-Purpose Room upstairs in UMPI’s Campus Center, with callbacks at the same location from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15. This light-hearted musical features a cast of seven, both male and female roles.
All are encouraged to audition. The Players are considering an adult cast, age 18 and over, but no one will be turned away, regardless of age. Those who wish to audition should be prepared to perform a musical selection and a reading from the play. Material will be provided.
