CROSS LAKE, Maine — A person was injured Tuesday after the ATV they were driving in Cross Lake Township collided with a passenger vehicle heading in the same direction, according to public safety officials. The person was taken to the hospital, although the extent of their injuries was not clear.
Derrick Ouellette, deputy chief for North Lakes Fire and Rescue, said the incident occurred at 2037 Caribou Road, which is near an ATV crossing. He said the trail runs parallel to Caribou Road and merges onto it.
The driver of the ATV was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent.
The Maine State Police primarily handled the incident while eight firefighters with North Lakes helped guide traffic. Presque Isle Police were also on the scene to help with reconstruction. An ambulance and towing company were also on the scene.
With more motorists on the road during the summer months, Ouelette recommended as general advice that drivers be more aware of the road and wear their seat belts.
“It’s nice outside right now, so there’s a lot of traffic with motorcycles and ATVs,” he said.
