The Caribou VFW recently presented students from the Loring Job Corps Center the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for their support of local veterans.
The awards are part of the Caribou VFW’s partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Loring center, which allows the VFW to recognize individual students’ success as they contribute to the local community and veteran projects.
Receiving the honor were Violette Smith, Hunter Willey, Miken Pierre, Aldephu Sefu, Emmanuella Pierre, Bendivido Migeul and Jean Leger. Each student received a certificate from the Points of Light Foundation, a recognition medallion pin and a letter of thanks from the president of the United States.
Together, the seven students contributed more than 850 hours of community service.
Over the past two years, the VFW has awarded 21 students this prestigious award. Recipients represent more than 3,000 hours of community service in northern Maine.
