PI Blue team captures league

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine The Presque Isle Middle School Blue girls’ soccer team went undefeated this season to earn the title of Aroostook League champions.

The team’s overall record was 7-0-3, including 4-0-2 in league play.
Presque Isle had seven returning eighth-graders who were on the team for three years. After winning just one game as sixth-graders, their growth as players over the past three seasons has been “incredible,” according to coach Monica Bearden.
Also adding to the mix was the return of three strong seventh-graders.
“The veteran players did an amazing job taking the new players under their wings and showing them the ropes,” Bearden said. “Having that type of leadership and experience on the field is definitely a huge advantage in both practices and games. It’s like having a bunch of coaches on the field and that certainly makes my job easier.”
She said the work ethic of all the players led to their improvement both as individuals and as a team.
Presque Isle only gave up six goals in the 10 games and posted six shutouts.
“It takes a strong team effort to have the success offensively and defensively and these young ladies proved that this season,” Bearden added.
