PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — On January 12 Bethany Baptist Church honored Lana Avery following her retirement from music ministry at the church. She served as pianist for more than 30 years. Pastor James Ackerson added, “Lana has been an important part of the worship experience here at Bethany through her faithful attendance and musical talent at the church’s piano.”
Avery was here at the beginning of the Bethany Baptist ministry here in Presque Isle. She has attended Bethany since it was founded in December 1951 making her a 74-year active member of the church. Avery began playing the piano at worship services more than 30 years ago.
She and her husband Ed Avery have experienced some health problems over the last few years and they have appreciated the support, care and prayer they have received from church members. Avery said, “I will miss playing regularly at church, but the time has come to step down and be a member of the congregation.”
Deb Ackerson, Pastor Jim’s wife, will assume the pianist duties while a new pianist is being recruited.
