Grateful for this caring community

To the editor:

“What a blessing!” my parents exclaimed.

Living far from our extended family in Korea, my wife and I often send them photos of our children. Recently, we shared pictures from Moosestompers, and they were amazed at what was happening in this small corner of the world. Their joyful response made me pause and reflect on how truly blessed we are.

It’s easy to take things for granted, but when I step back and consider all that my family receives from this community, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Again and again, I am amazed by our local businesses — their generosity, their caring spirits, and their genuine investment in the well-being of this town. I am equally grateful for our community leaders and Recreation Department staff, who pour their energy into organizing and overseeing events that bring us together.

This weekend, my family ventured out to try cross-country skiing for the first time. It was bitterly cold, yet the Rec staff greeted us with big smiles, their warmth cutting through the chill. Moments like these remind me of how special this community truly is — fun, caring and vibrant.

Recently, a church member told me, “Houlton is the best place to live in the world.” I couldn’t agree more. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who makes this town such a wonderful place to call home.
