Joy Barresi Saucier of the Aroostook Agency on Aging spoke to Central Aroostook PROBUS at its November meeting.

The agency Is a non-profit organization which supports people 65 and older. It has broad representation across Aroostook County. It covers one of the country’s largest land areas across 4,000 square miles of territory, but has access locations in 20 centrally located communities.

Its programs often serve as models for similar organizations across the country.

About 25 percent of Aroostook’s population is 65 and older and the agency has many programs and services for them. They include the Civic Academy, the Health Improvement Partnership, Family Home Support and the Memory Center.

Financial eligibility is not a requirement. The agency has about 40 full- and part-time employees as well as many volunteers.

To learn about services, call the agency at 764-3396 or visit an access location

PROBUS will meet next on Dec. 19 at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons at 10 a.m.

Visitors are welcome to attend. A topic of local interest will be discussed.
