PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A $96,425 grant from the Next Generation Foundation of Maine (Maine Next Gen) will support the Aroostook County Action Program’s next phase of capital improvements at its Family Services Center, located at 44 Park St. in Presque Isle.
These additional improvements and energy efficient upgrades will help ensure that the center remains safe and accessible now and for future generations.
“We are excited that Maine Next Gen has agreed to partner with us on this phase of our project,” said Sue Powers, senior manager of family services. “It has been rewarding for ACAP staff and clients, and the community as a whole, to see the former Gouldville Elementary School continue to be used to serve the educational needs of children.
“In addition, it has been important that as we make the necessary upgrades, we keep the integrity and character of this historic building intact,” she said.

Funds from Maine Next Gen will be used to replace or repair the sprinkler system, alarm system, playground fence, playground and parking lot pavement, and add heat pumps. ACAP officials say work will begin as soon as possible.
ACAP Family Services Park Street Center provides Head Start, Early Head Start, Child Care, WIC (Supplemental Food for Women, Infant and Children), oral health clinics and other family services.
Maine Next Gen is a granting organization supporting education, health enhancement, and basic human needs. For the past 13 years, the foundation has awarded grants to nursing homes, community organizations, health support organizations, schools, hospice programs, and social change organizations.
