Elect Rush for local representation

To the editor:

Aroostook and Penobscot counties have the chance to send fresh representation to Augusta on Election Day. For us here in Linneus and the greater Houlton area, we have the chance to elect a lifelong resident Houlton who understands us well. That’s why I am supporting Matt Rush for Maine Senate.

Matt is retired after having worked for over 40 years as a food sales and vendor in Aroostook, Penobscot and Washington counties. He is running for the first time because he cares about the people in the region — not for the title or a leg up to higher office. He raised a family in Houlton with his wife, Alane, who worked at Houlton Regional Hospital with my wife, Terri, for years as an OB nurse serving our communities.

I think you would be hard pressed to find someone who would have a negative word to say about Matt. That speaks to someone who has strong character and treats others with respect regardless of their social status or background. In today’s political climate, it seems to me that this perspective is sorely needed.

Matt has seen young people leave the area and cares about ensuring there are opportunities for young people to make a living here and raise a family. He knows that property taxes and prescription drugs costs are hitting working people and seniors far too hard. These are the kinds of “bread and butter” issues Matt will prioritize in Augusta.

I proudly endorse his run for Maine Senate and I hope you will join me in supporting him on or before Election Day.
