To the editor:
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Here are three gems I’ve heard about the Main Street renovation.
First, the company designing it thinks it’s a great idea and the fact that you’re paying them hundreds of thousands of dollars isn’t a factor. Wow. But they won’t be the ones driving on it, will they?
Second, we only have to put up 10 percent, or $3 million. The 90 percent balance will be paid by others. Governmental thinking at its best. If the city had to cover the total cost of the project, would we do it? If your answer is no, it’s time to reevaluate.
Third, the bypass will relieve congestion on Main Street. Do you mean the unfinished bypass that I’ve heard about for 30 years and is nowhere near completion? That bypass that most likely needs $100 million to complete?
When pigs fly.
