Snow Shocks Shiretowners — It came without much warning and caught many local residents completely off guard. Terry Larson, fixed base operator at Houlton International Airport, said three inches of snow fell Monday in the Shiretown. “It started as rain in the morning,” said Larson. “We had a temperature of 40, and as the temperature dropped to 32, the rain changed to snow.” Larson said he doesn’t recall in recent memory the last time that much snow fell the first week of October. The heavy snow caused power interruptions in parts of town. “We had the
Park Street circuit off, Maple Street circuit and Elm Street itself,” said John Clark, general manager of Houlton Water Co. Clark said between 500 and 600 customers were without power during the late afternoon.
