Conservation farmer named — The Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District chose Laurence “Larry” Park of Presque Isle as the 1973 Outstanding Conservation Farmer in Central Aroostook. The selection was made by a special District committee which viewed the farm, along with others competing for the award, made personal contacts, observed farm practices and carefully scrutinized the records pertaining to each competing farm. Park had established over 2,000 feet of grassed waterways, 2,000 feet of diversion ditches, 39 plus acres of strip cropping, 8,000 feet of tile drainage and had planted eight acres in trees. He was a committeeman with the local F.H.A. office, and was the only full-time farmer on the American Revolution BiCentennial Planning Committee. Winston Carter, Mapleton, was first-runner up for 1973 Outstanding Conservation Farmer.

Chamber saluted H. G. Slipp Ford — The H. G. Slipp Co., Ford Sales & Service, Presque Isle, was in the spotlight. The Slipp Co. came to Presque Isle from Fort Fairfield a little over two years prior when they purchased Osborn Ford Sales. The firm originated in Fort Fairfield in 1956 and was merged into the new business in Presque Isle, with a sales area including both Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle together with Ashland, Easton, Mars Hill and Mapleton. The Public Relations Committee of the Chamber of Commerce was proud to offer this “Salute” to H. G. Slipp Co., Inc., and its fine people.
