PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — For runners who want more of a challenge than the traditional 5K race, or families who are looking for a fun weekend activity, the Midsummers Night Glow Run 5K/10K takes place on Saturday, July 12 and can fill both of those needs.
“This race is the perfect mix between serious road racing and crazy amounts of fun,” said Jonathan Kelley of CompetitorME, event coordinator. “Athletes and families of all abilities will light up the streets of Presque Isle and celebrate a healthy lifestyle.
“As a bonus, a post-race movie will be offered under the stars. This is an event you and your family won’t want to miss.”
Midsummers Night Glow Run 5K/10K will be held at the Presque Isle Middle School track. Registration is from 7-8:15 p.m. The event includes a one-mile Fun Run for kids at 7:45 p.m. and a Glow Run offering both a 5K and a 10K option that gets under way around 8:45 p.m. Both distances will start and finish on the track. Participants are encouraged to dress up in glow-in-the-dark shirts, bring glow sticks or other glow items and find creative ways with family and friends to make this event memorable. There will be lots of music pumping, laser lights and a crazy finish.
After the race, a free family-friendly movie can be enjoyed under the stars. Participants can bring a blanket and munchies while they relax. One race entry ensures access to the entire family to the movie. Families not racing will be charged one $5 entry fee for the entire family.
Midsummers Night Glow Run is a collaboration of CompetitorME and TAMC.
“We are partnering with CompetitorME on a number of events this summer that support efforts to help people of all ages get active,” said Sylvia Getman, TAMC president and CEO. “We are committed to the health and wellness of the people in the communities we serve. Helping to offer activities that not only promote an active lifestyle but also support families doing these activities together is a win-win for all of us.”
In addition to participants, volunteers are being sought to help with the event to ensure it is safe, fun and successful, according to Kelley. Community members who are interested in volunteering or similar events being planned over the summer by CompetitorME can register on-line by clicking on the “Volunteers” link on the CompetitorME website.
