Some changes need to be made

To the editor:
Almost every week when I pick up the Star-Herald, there is a front page article about our city officials needing to make some major change in our city. In most cases these changes end up getting the cart before the horse.
A few of the more recent changes include attempting to reduce the staff at the Police and Fire Departments, reorganizing the staff at City Hall so we can hire a Deputy City Manager, needing a new Recreation Center and swimming pool and who knows what else. There have been so many recommended changes that it’s difficult to comprehend what, why and how we are going to accomplish all of these changes.
I agree that we do need a new Community Center and a swimming pool but we don’t want to deprive our youth and others of being able to have a swimming pool for the next five or more years. We want our community to grow and prosper but what are we going to tell new businesses and families wanting to relocate here when they ask where our swimming pool is located? We need and want our existing pool repaired and reopened now. If not, then perhaps a referendum could be arranged for the citizens of our fair city to decide it.
Well, according to the June 25 issue of the Star-Herald, our officials now think that we need a new City Hall. Personally I think we have an adequate and well located City Hall. The only thing I think needs to be changed about City Hall is to ship our City Manager and his big city ideas back to Lewiston or wherever he came from and reorganize our City Council at the next election. Quite frankly I’m not sure who is running our city, the Council or the Manager.
