PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Tyler Clark was named Employee of the Year, joining more than 20 city employees who were recognized earlier this month, during the city’s annual Appreciation Banquet, held at the Northeastland Hotel.
“On June 5, the city of Presque Isle held its third annual Appreciation Banquet. City Manager Jim Bennett hosted the event, with the help of City Council Chair Emily Smith. The guest of honor was Tyler, our Employee of the year,” said Deputy City Manager Martin Puckett.
In addition, each department honored outstanding individuals, presented service awards and recognized retirees, as well as volunteers and board/committee members.
“Tyler joined the Recreation and Parks Department three and a half years ago and has quickly proven to be a valuable employee. He has a wealth of knowledge regarding all facets of the department. He is innovative and doesn’t hesitate to make suggestions and improvements,” said Puckett.
Puckett said Clark’s “strong work ethic, commitment to a job well done and solid judgment make him an excellent example of what it means to be a city employee.”
“Over the last couple of years, Tyler has had to increase his responsibilities as Chris Beaulieu has taken on the leadership role for the Community Center Project and the corresponding fund-raising effort. With a quiet and unassuming leadership style, Tyler’s team appreciates his work ethic and willingness to work side-by-side with them. He is proud of his community, the work he does and works hard to make others proud of what his team accomplishes,” said Bennett.
Clark was given a crystal award and will be granted one extra week of vacation.
All departments of the city were recognized for the work they’ve done over the past year. Individuals recognized for going above and beyond this year and receiving certificates of appreciation were: Sharon DeMerchant, finance; Jason Dean, solid waste; and Chris Perkins, public works.
Also recognized were: Dale Morrison, Firefighter of the Year; Amber Cole, dispatcher, Civilian of the Year; and Chris Hayes, Officer of the Year.
Service Awards for 2013 were presented to the following employees:
• Five-Year Service Award — James Anderson, scale operator, solid waste; and at Public Works, Laurie Michaud, administrative assistant, and Chris Perkins, deputy director;
• Ten-Year Service Award — Sonja Plummer Morgan, library director; George Howe, code enforcement officer; Chris Beaulieu, recreation and parks director; Dan Corey, animal control officer; and Scott Wardwell, airport director;

• Twenty-Five Year Service Award — Darrell White, fire chief; and

Retirees recognized this year were: Sharon Barclay, tax clerk, with 35 years of service; James Kaiser, Forum director, with 29 years of service; and Lona LaFrancis, assessor, with 10 years of service.
“This year, the Council wanted to expand the Appreciation Banquet to include all individuals who serve the city by volunteering their time in various capacities. Specifically, Virginia “Ginny” Packard was recognized for 50 years of service as the city of Presque Isle’s registrar. Ginny donated many hours to the city in order to ensure the integrity of the election process. She will be truly missed,” said Puckett.
Bennett closed the event by sharing a few words.
“Residents want to be proud of where they live and their hometowns. Every day, you are trusted with that very sacred value. Thank you for realizing that being a public servant is more than a job … it is an opportunity to bring a smile to our citizens. Thank you for all the times you decide to do the extra things to go above and beyond in service to your community,” said Bennett.
