CHAPMAN, Maine — A Presque Isle man died as the result of a single-vehicle crash on the East Chapman Road in Chapman early Thursday evening.

“On May 29 at approximately 6:45 p.m., Trooper Shawn Whalen responded to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash on the Chapman Road in Chapman. Johnathan Browning, 42, of Presque Isle, was operating a 2005 GMC pickup northbound when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, causing the vehicle to skid out of control,” said Sgt. Chad Fuller, of the Maine State Police.
Fuller said the vehicle then crossed to the right side of the roadway.
“The truck left the roadway, striking a telephone pole and rolling onto its side. Browning was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. Browning died at the scene,” said Fuller.
Speed and no seatbelt are considered factors in the accident, according to Fuller.
Residents on the Chapman Road experienced power surges following the crash, as a crew from Emera Maine worked to replace the broken pole and downed lines. The road was temporarily shut down as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene. The accident occurred about a mile from where the hottop ends and the road enters the Chapman woods.
The MSP were assisted at the scene by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Presque Isle Police Department, Presque Isle Fire Department, Crown Ambulance and the Emera Maine crew.
Fuller said the investigation is ongoing.
“Please remember to always wear your seatbelt,” added Fuller.
