ASHLAND NEWS

The Ashland Fire Department and Pioneer Lodge, along with the Ashland Summer Fest Committee, have teamed up to create a fun evening in town.
From 5-7 p.m. Saturday, May 17, the fire department and Pioneer Lodge will sponsor a bean supper at the Ashland VFW on the Portage Road. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit a 9/11 memorial planned to be constructed in Ashland, which will feature a 3,700-pound piece of steel from the Twin Towers in New York City.
Following the dinner, the Ashland Summer Fest Committee will be hosting an auction, with the proceeds being used to enhance Summer Fest festivities. Some items up for bid will include wood pellets, fuel cards, gate passes and Snap On clothing. The committee is still accepting items to be auctioned off. Anyone interested in donating an item for the auction should contact Teresa Driscoll at tdriscoll84@hotmail.com.
Community cookout
There will be a community cookout Saturday, May 24 from noon-3 p.m. at the VFW Hall on the Portage Road in Ashland.
Come out and enjoy a hotdog or hamburger lunch complete with various salads, soda and ice cream for dessert! The cost is $5.
There will also be banjo music for entertainment.
Benefit supper
There will be a benefit supper held Saturday, May 24 at the Ashland District School beginning at 5 p.m. The event is called “Momma’s Sit Down Dining Italian Dinner” and will feature Italian cuisine, live music and courteous servers. The fee for dinner and entertainment will be by donation.
The event is being held for Pastor Nathan Gardner to help with some of his expenses as he is being treated for leukemia. Many churches from the area and nearby Canada are rallying around to help. Pastor Gardner ministers at the Ashland Congregational and Chapman churches.
