Kochs, Nelson, Daigle and Ayotte dominate meet

The Presque Isle Wildcats hosted Aroostook County’s first track meet of the spring. The event, originally scheduled May 2, was rescheduled to last Tuesday and saw the Caribou boys and girls come away with titles.
It was also a big day for the Koch sisters of Washburn as they won three events each. Carsyn Koch, a senior, won the 1,600-meter run in 5:45.17, took the 800 in 2:34.58 and captured the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 5 inches. Her younger sister Tori, a freshman, prevailed in the 100 in 13.35 seconds, the 200 in 28.69 and the long jump with a mark of 14 feet, 6-1/2 inches.
Regan Nelson also won three events, taking first in the shot put (30 feet, 3-1/2 inches), the discus (89 feet, 8 inches) and the javelin (83 feet, 8 inches) to lead the way for the host Wildcats. Teammate Abbie Estey was the runner-up to Nelson in both the shot put (25 feet, 9-1/2 inches) and the discus (77 feet).
Janae Libby of Fort Fairfield tied for first in the pole vault by clearing 6 feet. Sarah Owens was second in the 100 hurdles in 20.1.
The Presque Isle 4×100-meter relay team of Karen Jones, Rachel Maxwell, Grace Player and Kaleigh Kinney won in 59.13.
Jacqueline Lambert was third in both the high jump (4-4) and the pole vault (5 feet, 6 inches) for the ’Cats. Player and Fort Fairfield’s Teresa Maynard were also part of the four-way tie for third in the high jump.
Fort’s Rebecca Theriault took second place in the long jump (13 feet, 6-1/2 inches) and teammate Lillian Ashby was third (13 feet, 1-1/2 inches). Ashby was also second in the triple jump (27 feet, 6-1/2 inches). Skylar Vogel of PI was third in the javelin (69 feet, 8 inches).
On the boys’ side, Fort Fairfield’s Caleb Daigle and Presque Isle’s Mitchell Ayotte were both three-event winners. Daigle won the 100 in 11.82, the 200 in 24.57 and the discus with a mark of 122 feet, 2 inches —  a distance a whopping 23 feet and 2 inches farther than the runner-up, Elyjah Crockett of Houlton.
Ayotte won the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches; the triple jump at 35 feet, 6-1/2 inches; and the long jump at 18 feet, 10-1/2 inches. Teammate Kyle MacCallum was the pole vault winner by clearing 11 feet.
Matt Tilley and Keeghan Lowe, both of PI, were second and third, respectively, in the javelin. Tilley threw it 116 feet, 10 inches, while Lowe’s mark was 112 feet, 1 inch. Tilley also was third in the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches).
Steven Wentworth of FF was second in the race walk in 8:53.01 and teammate Brandon York was runner-up in the shot put at 34 feet, 3 inches and also was third in the 400 (1:02.46). Lance McKenney of the Tigers was third in the 800 (2:19.16).
For PI, Lowe was third in the shot (33 feet, 7 inches). Khasen Lowe placed third in the long jump at 17 feet, 1-1/2 inches and Connor Murchison was third in the high jump (5 feet, 6 inches). Trevor Levesque came in third in the 3,200 in 11:21.06.
At Caribou Saturday, local first-place winners were, for girls, Nelson in the shot put (31 feet, 3-1/2 inches) and the discus (98 feet, 4 inches) and Maynard in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches).
Daigle again won three events, taking the 200, 400 and discus.
The Orono girls and the Caribou boys were the team winners.
