Reward offered in vandalism case

Law enforcement officers with the Maine Forest Service are investigating a case of vandalism that occurred earlier this year involving the slashing of tires in the North Maine Woods.

“Between the dates of Dec. 31, 2013 and March 10, 2014, three vehicles belonging to Mr. Matt Libby and family had their tires purposely cut while they were parked in the North Maine Woods near the sporting camps known as Libby’s Camps in Township 8 Range 9 and Township 7 Range 9, near Millinocket Lake,” said John Bott, director of special projects/communication for the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
Bott said two of the vehicles were approximately 40 miles from the nearest town when their tires were intentionally cut.
“The third vehicle was driven out, with the driver unaware that his tires had been purposely punctured. In addition, an implied threat of the sporting camp’s burning down was left in the area,” said Bott.
A reward is being offered to anyone who can provide details to help solve this case.
“A $500 reward is being offered to anyone who can provide any information that leads to a grand jury indictment. Anyone with any information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Maine Forest Ranger Stephen Wipperman, who works for the DACF, at 712-8007,” said Bott.
