In the small, quiet town of Easton sits this historic church building that was constructed over 100 years ago in 1909, formerly the United Methodist Church. In June of 2013, it was decommissioned as the United Methodist Church and the church doors closed. Decisions had to be made as to the fate of this beautiful church.  God orchestrated a quick series of events leading to the decision that the church would remain a church and that it would be used for what it was built for — a place of worship.    The decision also was made that this beautiful old church building would be acquired by a church with a congregation that has asked God for a place of their own for almost six years. In front of this church in Easton now stands a sign that reads “New Song Church.” New Song Church is an independent church that was established in March of 2008, and is co-pastored by Granvill Lamb, Jr. and his wife, Janice.
The Lamb’s say, “We are thankful and blessed beyond what words can say. When we answered God’s call for us to enter into full-time ministry to plant a church, we knew He would provide for our every need. Our initial meetings began in our home and slowly, one by one, and two by two, we began to grow and soon outgrew our living room.”
At this point, Janice and Granville looked to God to provide a place large enough for the group and within their budget. They moved to three different places in the span of five years. Each move was an answer to prayers with perfect timing. Each move was a test of faith.
“The church family has hearts filled with appreciation for all the kindness and generosity of God’s people who gave us a place to “rest our feet” for periods of time during these last five years,” noted the Lambs.
Janice and Granville are especially appreciative to the town of Easton, and to the town leaders, for entrusting them with this very beautiful building.
“The people of Easton show how caring and warm they are while always encompassing their tight-knit, family-oriented community,” said Granville.
New Song Church is hoping to draw from all communities as well as from Easton. Currently their congregation travels from Caribou, Woodland, Presque Isle and Easton. Knowing this church building has served many families over the past 100 plus years, renovations were designed to accommodate its current use, yet maintaining the uniqueness, beauty and splendor of this historic church building.
They will be hosting an open house on March 9 from 2-4 p.m., with a dedication service from 4-4:30 p.m., with Town Manager Jim Gardner as a special guest speaker. All are invited to come, see and share in a time of dedication of this beautiful building to the glory of God. Light refreshments will be served. They would love to hear your stories about your connection with this beautiful church.
