To the editor:
There are many reasons why I love our community. I would like to share one. I want to acknowledge and give thanks to some very special ladies.
Losing a dear friend is never easy, being able to get together and say goodbye is for many so very important.
I would like to thank Gretchen Brissette and all the wonderful ladies of the Eastern Star Lunar Chapter 126 for putting together at very short notice a beautiful memorial for Sylvia Weinberg.
Ladies, the service was so thoughtful and heartfelt, being able to share tears and laughs would have pleased Sylvia greatly. Everything was so nicely done. The tables were set so pretty, and the food — ladies, you outdid yourselves. It was just what Sylvia would have liked.
I would like to thank Mary Alice Boulier for her wonderful dip recipe, and all the other ladies who made sandwiches and sweets, and let’s not forget the pickles. Ladies, thank you so much, it was so kind of you. I know Sylvia was pleased.
I would also like to thank Virginia Fischer, the reference librarian at UMPI for all her time in looking for a story about Sylvia that was in the Star-Herald years ago.
Last but not least, I would like to thank Robin Doody, manager of the Northeastland Hotel and Heather Boyne, events planner, for all their hard work and kindness. Sylvia was well-loved by all at the Northeastland. For all of you who loved Sylvia and did not know about the memorial, please accept a heartfelt apology. It was out of our hands.
Here is Mary Alice Boulier’s great dip recipe. One block of cream cheese, room temperature; two tablespoons of brown sugar; 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, one chopped up apple; one tablespoon ginger ale. You can add chopped pecans or walnuts if you like. Enjoy.
