PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Middle School boys’ eighth-grade basketball team recently captured the Aroostook League Championship.
This team finished with a league record of five wins and one loss and an overall mark of 13-1.
“This team was definitely the best in The County and one of the best basketball teams I have coached,” said coach Tim Olore. “They played terrific defense the entire season, allowing an average of under 28 points a game. We were able to adapt our style as games and situations changed.
“Offensively, this team can run the floor and they understood the team game. We were able to attack teams many different ways when other teams would change defenses on us or key on certain players. This was truly a team effort,” he added. “All the players worked very hard on developing their skills, put quality time in, were team players, and were very fun to coach.”
Offensively, the Wildcats averaged 48 points a game and were led by Griffen Guerrette with 201 points, including 25 three-pointers, Randon Mortland had 185, Ryle Mortland 126, Adam Paterson 44, Alexis Quevedo 29, Jordan Bonville 24, RJ Gross 21, Dylan Bonville 20, Jack Beaulieu 10, Jack Bonville seven, Gage Young six and Joshua Plummer-Morgan two.
“Guerrette was an excellent floor general and leader, Randon and Ryle Mortland were our big-time defenders, rebounders and scorers, Paterson was our other key defender and rebounder, Quevedo and Jordan Bonville were very improved defenders, Gross and Beaulieu were our nice two guards and Young, Jack Bonville, Dylan Bonville, and Plummer-Morgan all showed nice improvement throughout the season,” Olore said.
Gabby Jandreau and Isaac Adams were the team’s managers.
