Budget meetings set for greater Mapleton communities

Select board budget meetings for the three towns will be held the first week of February and are open to the public. Castle Hill’s will be held Monday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m., Chapman’s will be Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m., and Mapleton’s will be held Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. All meetings are held in the Town Office conference room.

The budget and its supporting documents are posted on the towns’ website at www.mapleton.me. The budget meetings serve as an opportunity to learn about the budget and ask questions prior to the annual town meetings in March.

Named to Dean’s Honor List

    Alyssa Huston, daughter of David and Vicki Huston of Mapleton, was named to the Dean’s Honor List for the 2013 fall semester at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.
Huston is a senior majoring in allied health.

Town reports

    If you have received a request from the Town Office to provide a report on behalf of your club or organization for the 2013 town reports, your deadline for submission is this Friday, Jan. 31. News from State Road Advent Christian Church

    The State Road Advent Christian Church is hosting the “If: Gathering — Northern Maine Edition,” a free ladies’ event Friday, Feb. 7 from 5-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the church. This is a webcast originating in Texas.
There will be Christian speakers, food and discussion. Brunch will be provided Saturday. More information can be found on their Facebook page with that title. For more information, or to register, please contact Jess Blackstone at 227-1848.
The church will also be sponsoring a six-week group experience called “The Art of Marriage” that will begin Sunday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. There will be food and teaching from the DVD curriculum and great discussion. There is a $12 charge per couple that wishes to attend.

Dusty’s Old Time Jamboree

    In case you missed the sign in front of the Mapleton Lions’ Hall, Dusty’s Old Time Jamboree will be gathering at the hall again this Sunday, Feb. 2. They will be performing from 2-4:30 p.m. Brave the cold to listen to some great local entertainment!

Pageant meeting

    Presque Isle High School’s Class of 2015 will once again be sponsoring the Mapleton pageants. The two pageants will be held Saturday, April 5 at PIHS.
Girls in grades 1 through 3 are eligible to participate in the Little Miss division, while girls in grades 4 and 5 would be in the Pre-Teen division. Girls in grades 6, 7 and 8 would compete in the Junior Miss division. Girls in grades 9 and 10 will be Teen contestants and grades 11 and 12 will be Miss contestants.
To be eligible, girls must be residents of Mapleton, Chapman or Castle Hill. There will be a parent informational meeting at the Mapleton Lions Hall Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m. If you have any questions or cannot make the meeting, please contact Jennifer Buzza at 760-9115.

Mapleton Daze

    It’s not too early to be thinking about summer and the upcoming Mapleton Daze celebration! Committee organizers are looking for entries for this year’s parade. If you would like to put an entry in the parade, please email Dena Easler at easler.dee45@gmail.com.

Chapman Ridge Runners Quilters

    The Chapman Ridge Runners Quilters are sewing pillowcases and chemo hats for Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C.A.N.C.E.R.), a local cancer support group. The quilters meet each Wednesday from 9:15 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The groups would appreciate any donations of fabric to make the pillowcases and chemo hats. Fabric may be dropped off at the Mapleton, Castle Hill, Chapman Town Office or at the Chapman Ridge Runners clubhouse on Wednesdays. Call Linda at 762-3741 or Sue Maynard at 764-1236 for information.
