Grants available for County nonprofits

ELLSWORTH — Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that draw on the strengths of the community and foster collaboration are encouraged to apply to the Aroostook County Fund, part of the Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

A volunteer committee of Aroostook County residents and business leaders reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding. The deadline for applying is Feb. 15. Application and guidelines are available at www.mainecf.org.
In 2013, grants included $8,400 to the town of Fort Kent for a new historical mural at the entrance to Riverside Park; $6,500 to Catholic Charities Maine to open a thrift store in Monticello to raise funds for the food bank; and $3,000 to the Northern Maine Fair Association, Presque Isle, to construct a stage for lumberjack competitors to perform and educate spectators at the Northern Maine Fair.
With offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation works with donors and other partners to improve the quality of life for all Maine people. To learn more about the foundation, visit www.mainecf.org.
