Presque Isle took a hockey road trip over the weekend, tying Hampden 3-3 while losing to Messalonskee, 5-2. Following a 16-day layoff due to the weather, Wildcat coach Carl Flynn said his team came out flat in Bangor Friday against the Broncos and allowed three consecutive goals to begin the opening period. PI scratched back as Cooper Madore scored off a Ryder Soucy pass with 28 seconds to play in the first. After a scoreless middle period, Andrew Michaud and Madore netted goals in the third to tie it up. Alex Michaud set up the first one, while Mikey Michaud and Andrew Michaud were credited with assists on the equalizer.
PI held a 45-27 shot advantage in the game. Jillian Flynn was in net for the Wildcats.
The following day at Sukee Arena in Winslow, the ’Cats again got off to a slow start by allowing a pair of goals in the first four minutes of play. Madore cut the Messalonskee lead in half with a goal off a Soucy assist 8:34 into the period and then tied the game 32 seconds into the second when Alex Michaud tallied off assists by Tyler Seeley and Andrew Michaud.
However, Messalonskee owned the third period by scoring three unanswered goals, outshooting the visitors 17-2 in the process.
Flynn played well in goal and kept her team in the game, according to the coach, who added that Madore had a productive weekend offensively.
The team plays Old Town/Orono at home Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. The Wildcats then travel to Bangor’s Sawyer Arena Saturday to take on John Bapst at 5:30 p.m.
Make-up dates have been set for the team’s games that were originally scheduled Dec. 20 and 21 and postponed due to the snowstorm.
