Animals included in curriculum

I visited Pine Street School’s open house Monday night and was pleasantly pleased to see that pets are a part of their curriculum. Yes, you heard me correctly, pets. They discuss who has what kind of pet, responsible pet ownership, and stories regarding pets. I couldn’t be happier to see that my daughter and her classmates are learning about pets at school.     Pets touch our lives, even if your family does not own one. This is like a dream come true for me. Teachers have such a huge impact on our children’s lives and hearing about responsible pet ownership from a teacher may have even more of an affect on children than learning about it at home. The time to teach children about pets is when they are young; they then take that back to their families and are able to know how to properly treat their pets. I applaud the powers who have made this possible in our school system.
We try very hard through our work with the Central Aroostook Humane Society to educate the public about who we are and what we do. We love talking about the animals and their care and sharing stories with groups. I find that each time I speak to a group, I meet a new friend, someone who had a true love for animals and even people who want to become involved in helping the shelter. If your group would like someone from our organization to visit with you, please give the shelter a call at 764-3441. We enjoy spreading the word about the wonderful pets in our community and how we can help them.
If you are looking for a friend for life, please visit the Central Aroostook Humane Society. We are open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, or give us a call at 764-3441. You can also visit us on line at www.centralaroostookhumanesociety.org. Please have your pets spayed or neutered.
