It was shipped nearly 3,000 miles by rail through three countries — Monterrey, Mexico, Laredo, Texas, San Antonio, Little Rock, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Saint Andre, Que., Moncton, New Brunswick, Saint Leonard, Van Buren, Squa Pan Junction and finally to the intermodal facility in Presque Isle — where the 144,000-pound unit was off-loaded by Irving Crane, New England. Shipping coordination, including delivery by trailer truck to Emera’s Flo’s Inn installation site, was contracted with HLI Rail & Rigging, LLC. According to Bob Potts, a utility spokesman, the purchase is part of ongoing effort to improve reliability for Emera Maine’s northern district (formerly Maine Public Service) in Aroostook County at the company’s main interconnection point with New Brunswick.
