WINSLOW, Maine — The Wildcats take a 1-1 record into this afternoon’s home opener against Houlton-Hodgdon.    That’s after the team won one and lost one on a weekend trip for games against Lawrence-Skowhegan and Winslow Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Both games were played at Winslow’s Sukee Arena.
The ’Cats earned a 5-2 victory over the newly-formed co-op Lawrence-Skowhegan team on the first night.
Tyler Seeley had a hand in all five goals, assisting on the first two, with Joseph Patenaude and Alex Michaud getting the goals, to stake their team to the early lead.
The opponents cut the lead in half late in the period, but Seeley scored 36 seconds into the second, had an assist on Alex Michaud’s goal eight minutes later and scored again with 3:16 to play in the period to clinch it.
Lawrence-Skowhegan had the game’s only goal of the third period to wrap up the scoring.
Alex Michaud, Andrew Michaud and Patenaude notched two assists apiece, while Michael Michaud had another for Presque Isle.
“Our top line [Seeley, Alex Michaud and Patenaude] played well, moved the puck and finished well,” said PI coach Carl Flynn.
Jillian Flynn saved 22 shots in the victory.
“She was phenomenal,” said her coach. “It was possibly her best high school game to date and she kept us in the game in the first period when we came out a bit flat.”
To wrap up the trip, PI wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Alex Michaud tallied off assists by Seeley and Patenaude 44 seconds in.
The Black Raiders then scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead after two periods, but Michael Michaud was assisted by Ryder Soucy 4:29 into the third to draw within a goal.
Winslow notched insurance goals three minutes apart to seal the win.
Flynn saved 18 of 23 shots in goal for PI.
[Defensemen] Mikey Michaud and Andrew Michaud] logged a lot of ice time and did their best to limit Winslow’s scoring,” said coach Flynn.
“We didn’t have our legs early, but fought through it and midway through the third we were down one and had a power play and had we scored, the outcome would have been different.”
Today’s match against Houlton-Hodgdon begins at 5 p.m.
