Worcester named Class D player of year in soccer

The Maine Soccer Coaches held its annual All-Star Banquet recently and Mackenzie Worcester of the Washburn Beavers was named the Class D player of the year for the second consecutive year.    Worcester, a junior, scored 50 goals and helped the Beavers to the state championship. With a season to go, she is currently ranked fourth in the single season scoring list for Maine.
Worcester is also part of the girls’ Eastern Maine State Team, which includes fellow local players Sarah Doak of Caribou, Bria Judd of Caribou, Hannah Graham of Presque Isle, Logan Bubar of Fort Fairfield, Abbey Player of Fort Fairfield, Carmen Bragg of Washburn and Carsyn Koch of Washburn.
Others named to the elite squad were Anne Marie Dagher of Bangor, Maddie Page of Hermon, Kaitlin Saulter of Hermon, Opal Curless of Mount Desert Island, Pilar Elias of Waterville, Alana of Houlton, Samantha Nadeau of Madawaska, Hanna Renedo of Orono, Dianna Tyutyunnyk of Orono and Parise Rossignol of Van Buren.
Named to the boys’ Eastern Maine State Team from the area was Ben Nickerson of Presque Isle.
Also selected were Carson Atherley of Bangor, Nate Bach of Bangor, Tristan Gardner of Hampden, Abdibaari Hersi of Lewiston, Idow Doud of Lewiston, Eric Knight of Mt. Ararat, Drew Parsons of Mt. Blue, Steven Mahon of Ellsworth, Jeff Weeks of Ellsworth, Ian Lee of Madawaska, Trevor Lyford of Penquis and Ben Miller of Bangor Christian.
Wyatt Omsberg of Scarborough High School and Hermon’s Saulter were both recognized as All-
Americans. Omsberg, Lee and Gardner were All-New England selections for boys, with Saulter, Alexis Elowich of Deering and Jenna Soucy of Windham earning the honor for girls.
Joining Worcester as players of the year are: Class A boys, Omsberg; Class B boys, Matt Crowley, Greely; Class C boys, Lee; Class D boys, Miller; Class A girls, Soucy; Class B girls, Elias; Class C girls, Tyutyunnyk.
Ryan Hurley of Camden Hills was named Eastern Maine boys’ coach of the year, with Mark Diaz of Scarborough the choice in Western Maine.
Cid Dyjak of Orono was the girls’ coach of the year in Eastern Maine and Deb Label of Windham was the Western Maine representative.
The Eastern Maine Regional Teams had been named a couple weeks earlier.
Players from the region selected were, for Class B boys: Matt Milliard of Caribou and Cody Lyford, Nickerson and Tyler Seeley, all of Presque Isle. Class D boys: Cody Halvorson and Hunter Turner, both of Easton; Class B girls: Sammy Camy, Doak, Judd and Delaney Williams, all of Caribou; Graham and Krystal Kingsbury, both of Presque Isle; Class D girls: Marissa Chasse of Ashland, Marissa Anthony, Molly Anthony and Karli Levesque, all of Central Aroostook; Kylee Carter of Easton; Bubar, Player and Nicole Giberson, all of Fort Fairfield; and Bragg, Koch, Worcester and Catelyn Coulombe, all of Washburn.
