The Washburn Rotary Club’s annual Hunter’s Breakfast will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Trailrunners’ clubhouse in Washburn. Breakfast will be served from 4:30-8:30 a.m., at $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12.This year’s raffle include first-, second-, and third-place prizes which are 100 gallons of fuel oil from Perham Oil, $100 in hunting supplies, and a $75 Wal-Mart gift card. Tickets can be purchased from White’s Service Station or any Rotarian.
Varsity Club Supper/Auction
The Washburn Varsity Club Supper/Auction will be on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Washburn High School. The auctioneer will be Tom Drew and cost is just $5 per person and $2.50 for children under 12. The Varsity Club is looking for items to be donated for the auction. Please contact Ron Ericson if you would like to donate an item for the event. Students taking wreath orders
The Washburn District Student Tour group is now taking orders for holiday wreaths. All proceeds will be going toward their next trip which will be to Scotland and Ireland. The wreaths are 30 inches, and cost $25 for a decorated wreath and $15 for undecorated. They can be all balsam fir or mixed evergreens. Customers can choose the color of their decorations. To place an order you can call Tracy Reed at 455-4501 or e-mail treed@msad45.net or contact any tour participant. The wreaths are hand-made and very full. They will be taking orders until the end of November and the wreaths can be delivered as early as Thanksgiving, as long as the orders are received a week ahead of time.
Library news
The Washburn Memorial Library is holding an overdue book amnesty during October. Library officials would like overdue books returned and are offering a deal that’s hard to refuse. Come in with that overdue book or DVD or audiobook and bring some non-perishable foods to pay your fines. That’s right, even if you owe a large amount of money in fines, library staff will mark your record “paid” if you contribute to the food bank here in Washburn.
New hours for Washburn Memorial Library: Mondays, 1-7 p.m.; and Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Book signing
Lauretta S. Blackstone, who has ties to Washburn, will be holding a book signing for her newly-published book, “Barns: Aroostook County, ME” at the Caribou Historical Center and Museum, 1033 Presque Isle Rd. on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 1-4 p.m. Books will be available for purchase at that time. A slide show on barns will also be presented. Refreshments will be available. Come out and support a local artist.
