After The Bell

Instilling a sense of community is one of the goals of After The Bell. Join us as we lead activities to raise awareness regarding domestic violence during the month of October. We are looking for individuals, organizations, churches or clubs that want to join forces with us.
One of our community events is a cell phone drop-off. Used cell phones are needed by the Hope and Justice Project as part of their Hope Line Project by Verizons. Do you have old cell phones that you no longer use? Is it just sitting in a drawer or do your kids play with it? Phones can be dropped off at Full Gospel Assembly in Mars Hill or at After The Bell located in All Stars on Main Street in Mars Hill. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 1. These phones may save a life.
Trunk or Treat will take place on Thursday, Oct. 31, on the east side of Main Street in Mars Hill. You may also visit the bandstand by the fire station to drop off your old cell phones and/or cleaning products that night. Those who make a donation that night will receive a special treat.
Does your club, organization or family want to play a special role on the activities this month? Please let Jamie know.

Bridgewater happenings

The Thursday Night Music Program at the hall will end early this year. The last night will be Oct. 24. We appreciate everyone who came to this event. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the spring. Thank you for your support.
Don’t forget we will be having the Smyrna/Merrill Historical Players back at our hall on Nov. 2 when they bring their latest play, “I Only Have Fangs For You,” to our hall. Be prepared to laugh. See you there.

Mars Hill Rotary

The Mars Hill Rotary Club gathered on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Kay York, principal of Central Aroostook Junior/Senior High School since August 2013.
Kay was born in Washington, DC and lived there until her family moved to PA when she was in the 7th grade.
She attended college in Cedarville, Ohio, where she met her husband, Brent. They have been married for 31 years and have four children: Andrew, Cameron, Brendan and Brea — all CAHS graduates.
Kay started in the SAD 42 District as a Title 1 teacher and has also taught transitional 1st grade, reading recovery and administration, as well as teaching 1st grade for 14 years.
Kay is enjoying working with the junior and senior high kids, many of whom she taught in elementary school.
Kay’s goals include building relationships with the students. She feels communication is key in helping each student be successful in every aspect of their lives. One person can make a difference in a child’s life — sometimes with just one positive action. Respect is also important — that staff, students and parents all show respect for one another.
Kay received her masters in administration in 2001 and is currently about two-thirds of the way through working toward her doctorate. She is also a developmental assets instructor.
