Another success story

I wanted to share another success story regarding an adoption that took place recently at the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
Princess Mimi was a 7-year-old Chow that came to the shelter on Dec. 18, 2012. She was surrendered due to her owner no longer being able to care for her. Mimi came in looking like she had been shaved; we later found out she was suffering from severe Pyoderma (a skin infection). As result of many veterinarian visits and blood work, it was determined Mimi also had a thyroid condition requiring medication.
Some of you may have seen Mimi in the Mapleton Daze parade this summer as she walked proudly down the street. By the time I returned Mimi to the shelter, a phone call had been received from someone interested in adopting her. I was so ecstatic once I heard, but then found out a few days later that the interested party had changed their mind.
Mimi was harder to place with the thyroid condition and the fact that she needed to be the only animal in the home. I went from being so happy to being so discouraged — I had gotten to know Mimi and knew she would make someone an awesome companion. After all, she was known as the shelter’s “Princess.” Everyone loved her so much.
There is a great ending to this story. Mimi finally grew all her fur back and in August found a forever home with a couple and their young daughter in Belfast. What a fantastic addition they have to their family.
Please consider making room in your heart and home for one of the animals available at the Central Aroostook Humane Society’s animal shelter. There are many cats and dogs that need loving homes! Visit the CAHS at 26 Cross St. in Presque Isle to adopt the forever pet that is right for you. Their hours are: Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed from noon to 12:30 p.m. for lunch.
