HOULTON, Maine — The Aroostook Football Junior Huskies defeated Houlton 71-41 Saturday as running back Apollo Grondin of Caribou
rushed for 400 yards and seven touchdowns and quarterback Greyson Sonntag of Mapleton notched 222 yards on the ground and scored three times.
ANDRE DAIGLE of the Aroostook Huskies’ junior football team stiff-arms a Houlton defender during Saturday’s 71-41 win.
Coach Jon Frederick also credited the offensive line for opening the holes for Grondin and Sonntag.
The blocking group included guards Colin Daigle and Jared Kilcollins, both of Presque Isle; center Isaiah Thayer of Caribou and ends Josh Baldwin of Presque Isle and Evan Mechalko of Caribou.
On defense, Matt O’Connell of Presque Isle was a playmaker as he recovered a pair of fumbles, one of which he forced. Grondin and Evan Michaud of Caribou also forced fumbles while Noah Rosado had a fumble recovery. Jovanni Taveras of Washburn had an interception.
Sonntag, O’Connell, Rosado and Tristan Mancos of Caribou had standout days on the defensive side of the line, according to Frederick, while Andre Daigle of Presque Isle and Michaud were solid on special teams with several big punt and kickoff returns.
