event was designed to present an opportunity for “Linking Generations” of students and educators, and highlighting the importance of education within our community. Five third-grade students from Washburn District Elementary School were invited to participate in this event.
Before the ceremony, the Washburn students accompanied by Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Sawyer and Mrs. Herzog visited the university radio station, WUPI 92.1, where they were interviewed by Miranda, an UMPI student who also helps at the After School Program. At the ceremony, Emma, Emily, Ted, Parker and Chris marched along with the other students, teachers and UMPI faculty members, including Mrs. Wendy Ross, the 21st Century Washburn After School Program director for the past four years.
Student of the Month Roix
Washburn District High School’s Student of the Month for August was Caitlyn Roix. Caitlyn is a senior this year. She is involved in several varsity sports including soccer, cheerleading, volleyball and softball. She is also the co-lead editor of the yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society and a high honor student.
Caitlyn is involved in the Honors Program at WDHS and is in the Gifted and Talented program for her abilities in art. Caitlyn has spent most of the first quarter of the year designing her own fashion line and ccreating accessories and looks forward the brand-new season.
She plans to attend a university or college and will study fashion design. Although she is not sure where she will attend college next fall, she is sure that she would like it to be in New England and is investigating several possibilities.
The faculty at Washburn District High School describe Caitlyn as helpful, honest, sincere and incredibly talented. She is an outstanding role model for other students and is highly respected by both faculty and peers.
Worcester scores big
Kenzie Worcester, a junior at Washburn District High School, surpassed Jordan McLaughlin’s 84 career soccer goals in action against Hodgdon on Friday, Sept. 13. Kenzie is the daughter of Kim and Larry Worcester.
She has led the girls’ record for some time but now has passed Jordan for the most soccer goals by any player in Washburn’s school history. She followed that up with four more goals against Easton on Monday. Kenzie still has four more regular season games and the playoffs this year, plus her entire senior year to add even more goals to her record.
