EASTON & FORT FAIRFIELD – Vernon E. Sharpe, 82, passed away Sunday morning, September 8, 2013, at a Presque Isle nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born May 27, 1931, in Bridgewater, the son of Glen F. and Violet A. (McNinch) Sharpe.
He was educated in Bridgewater and served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Mr. Sharpe was employed by Silver’s Garage, Presque Isle for a number of years and also had been self-employed as an auto mechanic.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Stickney) Sharpe; three brothers, F. John Sharp, Frank M. Sharpe, Donald G. Sharp; three sisters, Elva Ross Kinney, Madelyn Ross Clark, Muriel Sharp DeLong.
He is survived by two sons, David L. Sharpe of Corrina, Douglas E. Sharpe of Newport; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Nancy Sharp of Falmouth, MA; one sister-in-law, Joyce Sharp of Presque Isle; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private service with military honors will be held at a later date at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. Those who wish may contribute in Vernon’s memory to the Maine Veterans Home, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
