David Paul Thorne
THORNE, David Paul, 54, PORTLAND, August 25, 2013. Arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
PORTLAND – David Paul Thorne died Aug. 25, 2013. He was born Oct. 5, 1958, in Fort Fairfeld, the son of Clement and Joan (Murphy) Thorne.
Dave graduated from Presque Isle High School, class of 1977. He attended Northern Maine Technical College (NMTC) where he studied carpentry. Dave worked for a number of years after school, as a skilled carpenter in the Presque Isle area. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Dave was an accomplished billiards player, as well as a golfer and played on his high school golf team. He also liked to golf with his father, mother and family at the courses in Presque Isle and Island Falls. He moved to Portland in the early 80s, where he felt at home from living there in his younger years. Dave had a kind heart and did his very best to reach out to those around him that he felt needed his help. When you had a friendship with Dave, you had a friend for life. He loved to call and talk with his family and friends, just to stay in touch and find out what was going on in their lives.
Besides his mother, Joan of Presque Isle, Dave is survived by his adult son, Lance Smith of Presque Isle; 2 grandchildren; sister- and brother-in-law, Linda and Jeff Walton of Presque Isle; sister, Sandee (Thorne) Gendron of Naples, Fla.; brother, Tom Thorne of Brewer; sister, Pam Thorne of Bangor; sister and fiancé, Debbie (Thorne) Madore and Roland Guimond of Chapman; brother- and sister-in-law, Jim and Suzanne Thorne of Carmel; uncles and aunts, Richard and Barbara Pulkkinen of Millinocket and Clarence and Shirley Murphy of Baileyville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Clement P. Thorne in 2007.
Family and friends were invited to visit noon – 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Bowers Funeral Home, 54 Sherman St., Island Falls.
