Tourney raises $23K for NMCC Foundation

    FORT FAIRFIELD — Northern Maine Community College students will be the beneficiaries of more than $23,000 in scholarship funds raised through the TD Bank Golf Tournament to benefit the NMCC Foundation, which was held Aug. 8 at Aroostook Valley Country Club. This marks the tournament’s most successful year to date.

     Just over 100 golfers teed off for the annual scramble. A dinner and silent auction followed the tourney and the auction raised approximately $5,000.
    “TD Bank is extremely pleased with our continuing collaboration with the NMCC Foundation. Our annual golf tournament provides a wonderful opportunity to get together for a day of fun with our customers, employees, tournament sponsors, NMCC staff and Foundation donors to raise much-needed funds for the Foundation,” said Michael J. Kelley, regional vice president of TD Bank.
    The bank’s partnership with the Foundation has resulted in more than $123,000 raised in support of student scholarships over the past eight years, according to Vicki Smith, NMCC Foundation chairperson.
    Overall tournament champions and winners of the TD Bank Cup, with the first place low gross, was the three-person team made up of Barry Richardson, Bobby Russell and Bob Bruce with a score of 61. The winners of first low net for the scramble were Jerry York, Fred Putnam and Tom Moakler with a score of 56.7.
    Second place net went to Steve Clark, Bill Casavant and Bill Egeler, with a score of 57.8. Third low net went to John McCrea, Larry Gardner and Robert Osterblom with a score of 58.2. 
    Closest to the pin for the men was Bruce on hole No. 8 and Bill Molloy on hole No. 15. Closest to the pin for the women was Kathy Roy on hole No. 8. The longest drive winner on the 18th hole was Steve Clark. The “best dressed” award was presented to Marjolaine Dube.
