Pony League baseball wrap-up
In recent Pony League baseball action involving Presque Isle recreation department squads, Cushman’s defeated Rod Brewer Design, 15-6 and 11-2.
In game one, Kyle Beaulieu went five innings and struck out six batters to gain the pitching victory. Griffin Guerrette went 3 for 3 with a double, Sam Gray went 4 for 4 with a homer and three triples and Nick Bartlett hit a homer for Cushman’s. On the other side of the field, Alexis Quevedo of RBD had a triple with Denny Young and Caleb Nadeau both adding a pair of hits.
In game two, Griffin Guerrette gave up two runs with six strikeouts to his credit, while RJ Gross came in during the middle innings and fanned nine while not allowing a hit. RBD’s Caleb Nadeau went 3 for 3, all doubles, in the loss.
Washburn bested RBD, 7-0, with Nadeau and Kyle Rider notching extra-base hits in he loss.
Cushman’s turned around and defeated Washburn, 13-2, behind Ben Buckley, who struck out 10 in five innings of work. Offensively, Buckley went 3 for 5 and collected five RBI, with Sam Gray chipping in with two hits.
Cushman’s triumphed over RBD, 5-3, as Gray went three innings and garnered the pitching win. Ryan Player and Caleb Nadeau had two hits each for Cushman’s, while Quevedo went 2 for 3 at the plate for RBD. Kyle Nadeau pitched well in a losing cause.
The two teams met again with Cushman’s prevailing, 7-2. Player surrendered two runs on five hits in the complete-game outing. Grant Bridges and Guerrette both had singles for Cushman’s and teammate Chandler Paradis had a game-changing double. Michael Mahon and Max Bartley both singled for RBD.
In a matchup between Cushman’s and Ashland, Cushman’s pitching proved to dominate as they rolled, 14-0. Gray, Player and Gross combined on the no-hitter.
RBD shut out Washburn 9-0 behind Andrew Paterson, who pitched five innings and allowed just two hits. Paterson recorded six strikeouts during his outing. The RBD offense was led by Caleb Nadeau, who went 3 for 4. Paterson helped his own cause with a double and a triple.
