PRESQUE ISLE — A late-afternoon crash at the intersection of the Parsons and Connector roads intersection sent five people to the hospital Monday.
The Presque Isle Police Department was notified of the accident at about 5:17 p.m. Patrolmen Brian McQuarrie and Kevin Reed responded to a two-vehicle accident involving personal injuries to individuals in both cars.
“A 1997 Chevy Impala being operated by William Sullivan, 50, of Caribou, was traveling southbound on the Parsons Road, approaching the Connector Road intersection. A 2007 Mitsubishi being operated by Brandon Collins, 15, of Mapleton, was eastbound on the Connector Road when the accident happened, said Deputy Chief Laurie Kelly, of the PIPD.
Kelly said preliminary investigation showed Sullivan had failed to stop at the stop sign located at the intersection and struck Collins’ vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest at the mouth of Dragon Drive.
“Passengers in the Sullivan vehicle were identified as Christopher Knight, 16, and Brianna Michaud, 19, both of Caribou. The lone passenger in the Collins vehicle was Susan Collins, 39, of Mapleton,” said Kelly.
All five received injuries and were taken by ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Drivers and passengers in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
Assisting at the scene were the Presque Isle Fire Department and rescue unit, Crown Ambulance, with mutual aid from the Caribou Fire & Ambulance Service.
“Many people stopped and rendered whatever assistance they could directly after the crash, including several medical professionals,” said Kelly.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were considered a total loss.
