Citizens sought for municipal seats

    PRESQUE ISLE — City officials are seeking interested citizens to fill vacancies on various municipal boards.

    In June, city councilors selected Pam Sweetser to fill a seat on the Planning Board, left vacant following the resignation earlier this year of Karl Dampf. The term expires Dec. 31, 2013.
    Councilors also approved John Cancelarich to fill the seat on the Library Board of Trustees formerly held by Jacqueline Goodine. The term expires Dec. 31, 2014.
    City Clerk Bev Labbe said other vacancies remain but to date interest has been low.
    “We have several positions open. Some boards rarely meet, so time commitment would be minimal,” said Labbe.
    Seats available include:
• One alternate seat on the Board of Assessment Review. The board meets on an as-needed basis, with alternates serving a one-year term;
• Two seats on the Planning Board. Members serve four-year terms and the board meets the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m.;
• One spot open on the Voter Registration Appeals Board. The board meets on an as-needed basis, with members serving a three-year term; and
• One position for an alternate member exists on the Zoning Board of Appeals. The board meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. Alternates serve one-year terms.
    Applications can be obtained through Labbe at City Hall. For more information, call Labbe at 760-2720.
