Potato cooking contest
planned during festival
FORT FAIRFIELD — As a way to promote and bring attention to the importance of the potato in Aroostook County, the Maine Agri-Women will hold a potato cooking contest as part of the 66th annual Maine Potato Blossom Festival.
There are six categories: breads, casseroles, desserts, salads, soups and appetizers. Recipes must have fresh Maine potatoes as an ingredient. Contestants, who may cook a recipe for two categories, must bring a copy of the complete recipe along with the dish.
Judging will be Saturday, July 20 at the Fort Fairfield Elementary School cafeteria. Entrants are encouraged to bring in their dishes between 10:15-10:45 a.m. Judging will begin at 11 a.m.
Winners in each category will be based on four qualities: appearance of each dish, texture, ease of preparation and flavor.
The grand prize will be worth $150. There will also be a first and second prize in each category.
