Congressman Michaud launches

exploratory campaign for governor

Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud announced June 13 that he has formed an exploratory committee and launched a new website to help him evaluate a potential 2014 gubernatorial campaign.

“I have been greatly honored and humbled by the countless Mainers across the state — Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike — who have approached me in recent months and asked that I consider a run for governor. I’ve listened and I have heard their frustrations with Augusta, which is why today I am forming an exploratory committee to better gauge the depth of that support, its fund-raising capacity and the level of volunteer engagement for a possible campaign.”
The website, www.Michaud2014.com, features an “I Like Mike” engagement tool where Mainers seeking real leadership in Augusta can encourage Michaud to run and also allows supporters to donate to the campaign.
Michaud has not set a date for a final decision, but will use the exploratory process to have conversations with Maine voters about the future of the state. He intends to register within 10 days as a candidate with the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices to ensure full transparency as he launches his exploratory committee.
“Until I make a final decision, I remain committed to representing Maine in the United States Congress where I will continue to fight for a stronger economy, job creation, affordable healthcare, veterans affairs and the needs of working men and women in Maine,” Michaud said.
“Our state’s best days are ahead. We need proven, experienced leaders in Augusta who will put the people of the state first and work to help Maine reach its greatest potential, not hold us back with bad policies built on negativity and division.”
